Pet Spotlight: Snow Mom and Snow Pup
I have featured Snow Mom on a previous Pet Spotlight for the Lucerne Valley Hoarder Rescues. Now I will be giving the personal stories of Snow Mom and her final puppy, Snow Pup. Snow Pup was adopted out from us at the OC Pet Expo in April of this year but just recently came in to Orange County's Animal Control as a stray. The pound made many attempts to contact the owners and so have we, but still nothing. So, he's back and up for adoption again. Snow Mom was found on the Lucerne Valley hoarder's property with her litter of puppies sheltered under a blown off roof in the snow. All of her other puppies have been adopted out, aside from Snow Pup. He is about 5 months old now and the same size as his mother, a tell tale sign of her being a young mommy.
Our pretty girl, Snow Mom. I have taken to calling her Love Bug cause she lives up to it. |
Sleepy Snow Mom, so tiring dealing with her little boy. |
Playing with Snow Pup, I have started calling him Bugsie. |

The little gray flash next to me is my new little foster brother, Zazu.
Asleep while the humans are putting away the groceries, such tiring work watching them.
Me and my new little foster brother, Zazu.
He likes me a lot apparently.
This is my older half-sister, Ariel, who lets us nurse off of her. She's real nice.

Pet Spotlight: Lucerne Valley Hoarder rescues
I am going to showcase for some of our rescued dogs. Patches, Snowmom, Lilly, and Sweetheart were all rescued from a horrendous property in Lucerne Valley.
We all came from a hoarder who is now in jail for only one year for starving us and our friends and family. Most of our friends had already passed on before Helping Paws was notified and the rest of us were rescued. Even though this woman did not have the money to feed any of us, she refused to give us up to a better family and just watched our friends die of starvation one after another. Animal Control came out and were able to get the remaining of our horse friends. Helping Paws did not find out about us until a shockingly 1 1/2 years after our abuser was arrested. They left all of us and our feline friends on the property and the woman was still calling the shots on what happened to us. There was originally 32 of us doggies left on the property, but only 11 of us and 1 litter of puppies survived to the point of the wonderful people from Helping Paws came and rescued us. All of us females that were left ready to deliver puppies very soon after our rescue. We were all very thin and limping because of the nails and trash all over the property that we couldn't avoid stepping on. The property we were on was not fenced, but we are all very loyal dogs and we waited there for whatever food our abuser would let the caretaker feed us. The caretaker would rarely feed us because he believed we would only be good guard dogs if we were left hungry.

Hi, my name is Lilly, and I'm a 1 1/2 year old female Border Collie mix. I was one of a very few who were able to see our wonderful rescuers.
Hi, my name is Patches, and I'm also a 1 1/2 year old female Border Collie mix. I'm a sweety that loves to cuddle up on anyone that will let me and I will be a great family dog.
Hi, my name is Snow Mom and I'm a 1 1/2-2 year old Husky mix. I was found with my final surviving litter of puppies under a blown off roof in the snow. My litter was all adopted out through Helping Paws to great homes and now I'm waiting on the perfect family to come and adopt me. I miss my puppies, and I mother all of my canine buddies.
My name is Sweetheart, and I'm a 1 year old White German Shepherd mix who is still understandably timid. I need a good family that will love me out of my shell.
Zazu's personal spotlight
I'm going to do a personal spotlight on some of HP's animals. This will be my newest little foster Zazu's spotlight time.
Hi, my name is Zazu. I'm about 5-6 weeks old, no one knows exactly. My first family wasn't so nice to me. I was dropped off in the parking lot of Victorville's Petsmart, thankfully on one of their adoption weekends where my new foster was able to take me home and get me strong and healthy for my forever home. I am very playful, but take a little time to come out of my shell. I love playing with all kitties, big and little. My foster's little girl loves chasing me and I love taking her for a run. She's never allowed to pick me up and she gets in trouble for any meanness sent my way. She pets real nice, but she's a little confused cause she meows just like I do. Will you be my forever home? I'm only $45 and that covers my vaccines, deworming, and my neutering.

My personal foster kitties
These are pictures of my own personal foster kitties. It is a shameless plug as well as I don't have too many good pictures of Helping Paws' many other adoptable kitties.
This is Simba, he is 14 months old and a very dominating cat. He knows he's a big guy and he'll throw his weight around when needed. Simba is a little confused on the whole dog vs. cat issue, cause his best friends are the four dogs we have.
This is Kovu, Simba's brother. Also 14 months, and the polar opposite of Simba. He's very much a laze around type of cat.
This is Jacob, Simba and Kovu's half brother. He is 9 months old with a personality similar to Simba.
This is Edward, Jacob's sibling mate. He is a very independent, leave him to his own business type of cat.
This is Mickie and she is 3 months old. The four kitties above her are all her half-brothers. Mickie is a tough little girl and will fight for what she wants.
This is Victoria, Mickie's litter mate. She is also a rough and tumble little girl and is a better "toy" hunter than her older brother, Edward.
This isn't a great photo of our newest little buddy, Zazu. He is around 5-6 weeks old and a very strong willed little guy. He was abandoned in Petsmart's parking lot and we found him and took him home.

Helping Paws Fundraiser
In the months of July and August, Helping Paws will be putting on a car wash and yard sale to raise funds benefiting our current open vet bill and monthly food bill. We locked down our dates for each fundraiser. There will be several car washes on July 9th, 16th, and 23rd from 9 am-1 pm and the yard sale will be August 5-7th from 8 am-3 pm. There will be a car wash in Hesperia, Victorvile, and Apple Valley. Exact locations are still TBD. The yard sale will be at a volunteer's home in Victorville.
